Reading has been an important part of our lives. With myself being a writer and avid reader, my son has always grown up around books. We even had guests bring a book to his baby shower. We are continually visiting libraries and book stores for new inspirations. We love testing out and reviewing new children’s books. Xavier is four years old now and is very interested in reading and writing. Although he does not read just yet, he is getting better at identifying words and sounding out letters. He loves to memorize books and repeat them back as if he was reading them.
We were honored to be selected to review The Wacky World of Silly Willy Winston written and illustrated by Donna Maguire. The Silly Willy Winston books are a series of books inspired by the author’s real life dog, Winston, the Basset Hound. Winston is a wonderful steadfast friend and unlikely hero that young readers can relate to and admire. He has many heartwarming moments that really help children be proud of all of their own unique characteristics. Through Winston’s fun adventures he learns to appreciate his unique characteristics such as his big snout and long ears. Winston learns that his uniqueness gives him the abilities he needs to help his friends and have fun adventures. There are five books in the Silly Willy Winston series. There is the introduction book The Wacky World of Silly Willy Winston, Super Snout, Inspector Snout, Pirate Snout and Explorer Snout. Each book is a paperback of around twenty-eight pages in full color and a good amount of text to keep your little reader interested.
When I received this book in the mail for review Xavier was interested right away. He loved Silly Willy Winston and the fun and colorful illustrations. We have read it several times and he loves looking at Winston’s big snout and ears and hearing of his adventures. It is written very well and has wonderful illustrations. I like that is much longer than most children’s books it makes it much more fun to snuggle in for reading time.
