My Alien Child
Written By Renee Arbia
In a land very far from the earth
there was some discussion of a very special birth.
They knew this child would require care
and they could not just send him anywhere.
This land very far away and high above
would have to send this little boy to parents with lots of love.
He may cry feeling so far away
but soon he will be able to run, laugh and play.
Though at first our language made us feel worlds apart
I always knew what you were saying in my heart.
Your laughter that fills my ears,
is the same laughter that also brings me to tears.
You have stolen my heart, you little alien bug
you cannot just run around my house and then give me a hug.
Tell me not to sing in my own car,
then whisper "mommy please sing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star".
You are nothing but a tease,
and all your stuffed animals really do make me sneeze.
Yet every second I want to flash you a dirty look
you flash a smile at me and grab me with your hook.
I guess our love is not too bad, really mild
considering you are my toddler child.
