To Make Or Not Make Resolutions





Every year in January, I always ponder about writing a post about making New Year's Resolutions. I'm sure I can write some fluff such as; the ten best resolutions you should make. However, in this space, in this blog, I only blog our true selves. In this blog, I remind myself that I owe nobody, as it is mine and mine alone. Therefore, I say do not make new year's resolutions.

It is perfectly healthy to set goals and achievements for yourself, but why only do it at New Year's? My husband and I both are firm believers that you should live your life for today. If you are living your life day by day, you already have goals you are working towards accomplishing.

Typically, what we like to do in January is think over our upcoming year. We look at the calendar, debate dates for vacations, make time in our schedules to do everything we need and want to do. Typically this is a busy time of year in my husband's work so he buckles down to work, and I buckle down as mom to try to keep Xavier busy and stimulated while maintaining the house and our sanity. It is nice to see a quiet year ahead for us. We had a very busy and hard year last year, and finally we have a slow, steady, and quiet year ahead.

I know I find peace in quiet a lot. So many times we are rushing through our lives, that we forget to appreciate the quiet that we do get in our lives. I look forward to accomplishing a lot of things I want to get done this year, and am looking forward to all of the fun times we are going to have with our family and friends.

Perhaps, instead of always trying to improve the road ahead, we can look upon it with excitement and enjoy it for what it is.

  1. I agree that goals can and should be evaluated more than once a year. Hooray for a quiet year ahead! I hope it stays that way.
