Moving To A Toddler Bed

It has been about a month now and Xavier has finally transitioned from the crib to a toddler bed. We waited longer than many because Xavier did not climb out of the crib. Finally around the age of two and a half he finally climbed out of the crib once and we decided it was time to move him to a toddler bed.
I like the toddler bed because it has the same size mattress as the crib so we use the same sheets, blankets and everything so Xavier does not feel like it is a completely different bed. It is nice and low to the ground; though he always stays in the bed. It also makes it much easier for us to change his diaper in the night. (We usually have to once a night) It is much easier to do on the bed while he sleeps.

Note: Vito, our black lab photobombing

The good thing is Xavier is not great at opening the door yet, he has only opened it twice so far. Our door knobs are really heavy and stick. So we still have the audio and video monitor in his room. He took longer to fall asleep and there were a lot of extra "hugs" that we would go in and do, but finally within a half hour to hour after bedtime he ended up sound asleep.  This type of training reminded me a little bit of crib training, except we never really had much trouble transitioning to a crib.
Xavier is very good at staying in his toddler bed. For some reason he never will get out of it during nap time or bed time. He may be sitting up in it, kicking his feet against the wall or bouncing but it is all done in his bed. Which of course when we catch him doing that we make him lay back down. Other than that we had a smooth transition.
It is funny because he actually loves to sit on his bed. Randomly throughout the day he will be looking at his books on his bed or just cuddling with his blanket (grandma made him). He loves to just "hang out" on his bed with his toys and his blanket.
We make him keep his blanket on the bed.He likes being able to hug it and wrap himself in it whenever he wants.I like that it stays clean and he does not walk around like Linus from The Peanuts. All in all it was a smooth transition and a harsh reality at how quickly time passes. We had a great time redecorating his room which  you will have to check back tomorrow to see!

Wishing you all a wonderful week!
