My background as a dancer has me always watching Xavier as he moves. I am always wondering what steps he will discover next. So when I was asked to review the ThinkFun Move & Groove Your Child's First Dance Game I was very excited to try it out with Xavier. I knew he would be able to do the moves and learn some new ones!
The Move & Groove is the first dance game that is designed for toddlers (18+ to be exact). It comes with one large washable plush cube that is six different colors; yellow, green, blue, grey/silver, orange and purple. It also has a storage pocket in the cube to hold the 48 dance move cards. The game is designed for the parent and the child to play together. The game is simple you roll the cube and whatever color comes up you draw the same color card and do what it says. There are six types of cards; Let's Pretend, Movement, Classics, Body Parts, Silliness and Workout. The different dance moves build confidence while encouraging creativity, active play and gross motor skills.
Xavier, Nick and I all love the Move & Groove cube. It has quickly become a favorite activity in our house. We actually have to hide it and take it out at a special time so that we can play together otherwise Xavier wants to play it all the time. He quickly found it easy to match the colors on the cube with the cards. He has no idea what to do with the cards so he hands them to us and we all just do the activity right now, as he does not know how to do all the activities yet. However, he is learning fast.
Move & Grove is a great way to teach him about taking turns as just by him rolling the cube and picking cards he has learned how to let mom and dad share in the fun as well, and then we all do the dance moves together, which is still just as much fun! I also love that the cube is washable since it is rolled around the floor so much. I like how the cards are in categories so you have a lot of variety. I can see how this is a good game for any young kids to play as a family as you can take the moves and make them specific or have fun with them like we did!
I also really appreciated the pocket for the cards. Otherwise, let's admit it the cards would be missing. So I was impressed when not just the cards fit in the pocket but the cards in the box fit in the pocket so it is easy storage.
Since this is a dancing game it was hard to get good pictures of us playing it so check out our videos of us playing the Move & Groove from my YouTube Channel!
The Think Fun Move & Groove receives a 5 Star Rating from Next Generation Stay At Home Mom! They are the very first review to receive our five star rating as the honor is only saved for things that are a definite must for our household and I would easily give this as a gift as well, especially for a first birthday party!
Since having the Think Fun Move & Groove we have been so happy with it. It is nice to have a quiet, non-battery operated game to play as a family that also is fun and a physical activity. We have had a lot of fun with it on rainy days especially. I also have noticed that as a result of the game Xavier has a lot more body awareness and moves different parts of his body and is a lot more loose with his body which makes me realize that he is finally figuring out what all of his muscles actually do!
