Sponsor Review and Giveaway: Tonguespank Spices

I wrote this post while participating in a campaign by Bayleaf Communications Inc.  and received a gift to thank me for my time. All views and opinions with regard to the products or company itself are my own and were not influenced nor reviewed by the company prior to posting.      I am sure you may be wondering why I am reviewing something called Tonguespank. However, since this is a parenting blog, part of being a good parent is providing your family with quality meals. (Check out my Recipes tab for some good ideas.) Quality meals with a different array of herbs and spices to tickle or in this case spank your taste buds.
I was excited when I was asked to review some of the new spices from the Tonguespank Spice Company. The Tonguespank Spice Company is a company based in Chicago that is known for making boring food exciting again. All of their spices are all natural with no preservatives. They come in nice glass two ounce bottles. Their spices are meant to replace some of the traditional standard spices such as salt, pepper, Parmesan, etc.

The two spices I got to try out and that we are giving away are the Smoky Bourbon Table Blend and the Citrus Rum Table Blend. My personal favorite was the Citrus Rum Table Blend as I think it is extremely versatile and I have been trying to find lots of different ways in using it. When you buy the spices they come with a little information sheet, which I found extremely helpful in trying to decide what would go best with the spices. The Citrus Rum Table Blend is sold as being good on any kind of island dishes like jerk chicken, or you can go the other way with it and add it to cider, hot chocolate and various other treats.

Information sheet provided with the spices. Notice it has all their spices on it!

I tried out the Citrus Rum Table Blend on my Italian chocolate cookies. They usually require cloves in them. Instead of the cloves I tried the Citrus Rum Table Blend and “Hello! Chocolate Rum Cookies with a kick!” I liked it a lot. It was not really that much of a kick which is why I am a big fan of island spices. This spice also goes great just to add to oven baked chicken or stir fry dishes. At least that is all I have found so far.
The Smoky Bourbon Table Blend is to be used much like a hot sauce. They recommend sprinkling it on eggs, pizza, baked potatoes, chili, steaks, burgers, pork chops, and barbecue ribs. I tried it on my barbecue baby back rib recipe and it added a definite kick. It was not extremely hot but I would put it in the medium category. It is definitely a great barbecue spice and I cannot wait to try it out the next time I make my chili recipe!
The Tonguespank Spices are very original in taste and all of them offer a wide variety of ways in which you can use them which I love. Nothing is worse then having a spice bottle in your cupboard that you only use for one recipe. The Tonguespank Spices are very versatile something I know I am always looking for in a spice to keep in my cupboard.
