Review: Ameda Purely Yours Breastpump
This is the fourth week of our Top Five Most Needed Baby Items. The Ameda Purely Yours Breastpump is number four. To read the first three click here ( Diaper Champ, Cloud B Sleep Sheep, Moby Wrap). First of all I would like to draw your attention as to why a double electric breast pump is so incredibly important. The American Pediatrics recommend breast feeding your baby for the first year of their life. The World Health Organization recommends breast feeding your baby for the first two years of their life. This is to ensure optimum health for your baby. It is a lot of work, but well worth the hard effort you put into it. However, we live in a modern world and being strapped to your baby for one maybe two years is very hard. (Not impossible) However, you can use a breastpump to make your life and baby's much more comfortable.
Double electric breastpumps are best because they let you pump two breasts in half the time around 20 minutes. They can help you keep up your supply as well and they are extremely durable. They may seem to cost a lot but in the long run do the math of how much formula would cost and you can see they are well worth it. Remember too, you can use them for more then one kid. Also, as of January 2013 many insurance policies have to cover some sort of breast pump. Be sure to check with yours. You can usually rent them as well from the hospital, but if you are serious on breastfeeding nothing beats having your own breastpump.
Thus, why the Ameda Purely Yours Breastpump with Backpack is a favorite breastpump. I have to admit I have not tested a ton of breastpumps, but what I can tell you is that I have tested THIS breastpump to the max. You see for many of you who do not know me, Xavier was born with a minor tongue tie. We never had it snipped because I did not realize how necessary it was for breastfeeding. So not knowing why he did not latch properly I pumped round the clock, every three hours for the first four months of his life. Plus, also tried nursing him. We finally got a nursing rhythm but I still pumped for convenience as I liked having Nick feed as well and having some freedom. Once Xavier started teething around six months, he insisted on eating sitting up and only cold out of the fridge, so I am back to still pumping but only four times a day now. Needless to say I have a lot of experience with this pump.
The Ameda Purely Yours Breastpump with Backpack is a great breastpump. It does fast and easy pumping and the backpack gives you the flexibility and convenience to pump where ever and when ever. This pump also has a custom control with dual suction and speed adjust ability that allows moms to choose from a total of 32 combinations for the best milk flow and comfort every time. It also has a proven airlock protection system that means the diaphragm barrier keeps the air from your pump from getting in contact with your milk. Plus, you don't have to clean the narrow tubing. Lastly, it comes with customfit flanges, three power sources; AC plug, 6 AA batteries and a car plug, and it's incredibly lightweight and portable weighing in at only one pound.
The Ameda Purely Yours Breastpump with Backpack is extremely affordable running along the $229.99 for the entire package. It is much cheaper then many breastpumps, it comes with everything you need to get started as well. The only addition I got was extra flange set and a hands free pumping bra. I have a few reasons I love this breastpump. The main reason is the portability and lightweight of it. It is nice to be able to pack and unpack it quickly and be able to even walk around while pumping if needed. I am a stay at home mom but having a double electric breastpump is still a necessity. It is also great to be able to adjust the suction and speed. That comes in handy a lot especially until you get used to the pump. The multiple power sources are fantastic. You never know where you will be stuck and may need to pump. Having the battery, electric and car power makes that decision much easier.
I highly recommend to new moms that are serious about breastfeeding to invest in a double electric breastpump. You will not be sorry at all. It will be so much easier on you and your baby and it will help you achieve your breastfeeding goals.
