The Lone Shoe
One of the many joys of parenthood are the unexpected things that come along. Just when I think I got things under control and am about to be knighted "supermom" something crazy happens.
I was taking Xavier for a walk in his stroller for a change without the dog. (He was busy playing ball with the neighbors). I thought we were having a nice day. Only to come home and take Xavier out of the stroller and realize he is missing a shoe. I only put them on him for our walk. I know it sounds silly but if I happen to take him out of the stroller which I frequently do and we visit a neighbor along the way I want him to have shoes on to play outside. (I was caught once without shoes on and he played in his socks, don't want to do that again). So I knew the shoe must be around our neighborhood loop that we walked. It is 7/10 of a mile. I put Xavier back in the stroller and we walked around the loop again in search of his shoe. I could not find his shoe anywhere.
I called Nick who was on his way home and asked him to drive around the loop and see if he sees Xavier's shoe. He of course finds it and says it was right in the middle of the road. I assume it must have been blown by a car or something in the middle of the road. Or perhaps I am just so sleep deprived from the teething infant that keeps me up at all hours of the night I missed a shoe in the middle of the road.
I have to admit, before having a child I used to wonder how on earth someone could lose one shoe when I would see them on the sides of roads or parking lots. I now know the answer to that question. Apparently, the child kicked it off without anyone noticing. I sure do wish they made more cheap tie sneakers for infants. That episode today has made me realize never to put a lot of money into Xavier's shoes.
