As much as I love cooking I am fairly new to the whole baking thing. I had planned on a recipe for today's blog post. In fact the first recipe did not work out and I did not know what I did wrong. I thought perhaps it was just not a good recipe. So I found a totally different recipe and bought the ingredients and decided to make that recipe. Again, that recipe flops. Even though I am not much of a baker I am usually good at following recipes. If anything goes wrong it is usually the way it looks, my baked goods tend to taste much better then they look. (That does pose a problem when you put your recipes on a blog). However, with these two recipes the baked goods were horrible looking. They did not rise or cook properly. I had no idea what the problem was. I blamed lack of sleep. Until I thought of something. The baking powder and baking soda that I put in them. I looked at the expiration date on both of those items and they were three years ago! Yes, I know it sounds horrible but do you really check the expiration date on items in your spice cabinet? If a lot of you do then apparently I am missing something because I did not realize that is something you must do. Anyway, it is back to the grocery store I must go to not only get some more ingredients but also to get some NEW Baking Powder and Baking Soda. So your tip for today, check the expiration date on your Baking Powder and Baking Soda if it is too old it can be affecting your baked goods.
Here's to a lovely baking weekend. I hope you all have a great weekend and stay warm!
