Laughing and Lughnasadh

Yesterday, August 1st was the summer pagan holiday of Lughnasadh (Loo na sa).  Unfortunately, we did not get to do very much for it, as the husband and I were both feeling under the weather with colds.  It is the first time that we both have been sick at the same time with a baby in the house. However, we managed very well. Did pretty much two hour intervals. We would each have the baby for two hours while the other rested then switch off. Worked pretty good.
Luckily, Xavier was not sick and was in a very good mood. So good of a mood in fact that I was playing with him on his mat, my husband Nick was watching while lying on the couch resting. Our black lab, Vito walked by the mat and pulled the bars and toys by accident and they snapped back (no one was hurt, it withstood, great mat Infantino!) and all the toys went springing and bouncing and out came the most glorious sound of laughter from our son, Xavier! We had been waiting for his belly laugh but had not heard it yet. Of course I kept snapping the mat to make the toys bounce so that he would keep laughing. It was enough to make us all laugh! Of course after yesterday I have not heard it again no matter how many times I keep trying. I guess I will have to wait until he finds something else hysterically funny.
I think it was a great way to celebrate Lughnasadh. Lughnasadh is about our hopes and fears, competition, and games.  Without even planning it we ended up playing a game with Xavier for his first Lughnasadh, and it was a game he thoroughly enjoyed. If I have learned anything from having a child, it is that the little things are really the big things that you will never forget!
